Same Love Wedding Day - Behind the Scenes
A spoonful of sugar and a room full of blooms…
Long before any wedding day rolls around, the majority of groundwork has been done. From visualising concepts, brainstorming ideas and making mood boards, to ceremony writing, outfit styling, cake baking and everything in between - there is a group of wedding professionals (or wedding fairies, as I like to think of them) whizzing around to bring your most dreamed-about day to life and ensuring each detail is perfect. So, imagine that all happening, but instead of one wedding, there are four! And the stakes are high, as the couples tying the knot have just won the fight to legally marry the one they love after years of inequality. This was Brisbane’s Same Love Wedding Day on February 10th. For some background information on what this fabulous day was all about, including my interview with the brains of the operation, celebrant Alana Salm - check out this link.
It goes without saying that a whole lot of creative work goes into an event such as this, so I wanted to bring you some of the behind-the-scenes stories, pictures and favourite moments over our next set of blogs. Not to mention, it’s pretty rare to get such an exclusive sticky-beak at wedding preparation magic - it's almost like we have a backstage pass!
I’m lucky enough to be able to share the beautiful photos below, taken by Vanessa from Cookoo Photography, of the pre-wedding(s) preparation of florals and sweets. So, grab yourself a cuppa and your wedding inspo notebook, put your feet up and enjoy...
New England Flower Co have delicately created and arranged flower arrangements that would legit stop you in. your. tracks. There was an opulent flower crown and a simply stunning bouquet for our blushing brides; a rainbow of elaborate posies; and, of course, suave and colourful buttonholes for our dashing grooms. After working around wedding blogs for quite a while, I have a huge affinity for unique and vibrant florals (you cannot have too many blooms, right?!) and as you can clearly see, these are SUCH a visual treat!
Most of you would know by now that I am a massive sweet-tooth, so it’s only fair that I warn you in advance that the following images will make you immediately crave desserts. The extremely clever team at Vanilla Pod Specialty Cakes designed and produced outstanding multi-coloured cakes and heart-shaped rainbow biscuits for our petit weddings that looked just as good as they would have definitely tasted. These mouth-watering images of the entire process (but most especially of the finished products) may just have you making up creative excuses to order a fancy cake or two for yourself!
A massive, massive thank you goes out to our very talented photographer, Vanessa from Cookoo Photography and, of course, to the insanely talented teams at New England Flower Co and Vanilla Pod Specialty Cakes.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of this set of blogs all about the Same Love Wedding Day. Next time we will delve further into the behind-the-scenes action from this amazing event, so you will definitely not want to miss it.
Of course, the entire day would not have been possible without the incredible (and extremely generous) Brisbane wedding vendors listed below, so support them if you can by sharing their names with any engaged couple who will listen! Abby xx
